Use of borax and hydrogen peroxide is known to be one of the best home remedies for this condition. Mixing 500 cc of 1% hydrogen peroxide solution with 2 tbsp of borax in water is great for your pooch’s bath. Thoroughly mix the solution till all the ingredients dissolve well and use it once in a week to wash your dog. After washing properly, do not wipe it off. Let it stay on your dog’s skin. Also, adding ⅛th tsp of borax per liter of water used for the dog’s bath is known to be an effective treatment for mange.

Another solution for your dog’s affected skin can be prepared using the following oils. Take 10 parts almond oil, add 1 part neem oil and 1 part lavender oil to it, and mix it well. Apply this solution twice a day over the affected areas to get rid of mites and cure the infections.

Placing a lemon slice over the affected areas will also help treat this condition. You can also take a bowl of hot water and add the lemon slices to it and leave it overnight. Next morning, you can apply this water over the affected areas. Garlic oil diluted in water can also be used. The antibacterial properties of garlic help kill the mites.

A strong immune system will help fight mites that may be causing this condition. A weak immune system will make the dog susceptible, so feeding it healthy dog food is essential. Dark leafy vegetables are a must in meals. Also, Vitamin E and vitamin C supplements are beneficial. Fish oil is also known to be effective in building a strong immune system. Giving your dog a lot of water throughout the day is of prime importance.

Overall hygiene plays a very important role in curing and preventing this condition. You must keep your home and surroundings clean and dust-free. Make sure that the shelter is thoroughly cleaned. Its bed, sleeping area, and feeding vessels must be kept very clean and washed regularly. Regular baths are very essential. Gently brushing the skin and fur while using soapy water will help remove crusty and scaly skin.
